Human chain for featuring “World Cities Day 2025”

The Children Watch Foundation (CWF) organized a special event on World Cities Day 2025 at the Buddhijibi Smritishoudho, Dhaka, highlighting the global theme “People-Centered Smart Cities: Toward a Sustainable Future for All.” The program included a human chain, city cleanup drive, and tree plantation campaign, aiming to raise awareness about civic responsibility, cleanliness, and sustainable urban living.

The event brought together students, youth leaders, eco-ambassadors, local community members, and slum representatives, reflecting collective participation across social groups. In her inaugural speech, CWF’s Chairman Shah Israt Azmery emphasized that a truly smart city is not defined by technology alone but by people’s active engagement in keeping their environment clean, safe, and humane. She urged citizens to take ownership of their surroundings as part of civic culture.

Youth and community representatives expressed their commitment to building cleaner and greener cities through small, consistent actions such as waste segregation, keeping streets clean, and planting trees. Participants also took part in a symbolic oath under the slogan “আমার নগর, আমার দায়িত্ব” (My City, My Responsibility), reinforcing the importance of personal accountability in urban well-being. More than 100 participants joined the campaign, which strengthened public awareness on environmental conservation and contributed to the goals of Sustainable Development Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). CWF affirmed its belief that a city becomes truly “smart” when it is clean, humane, and environmentally resilient, and announced plans to expand such youth-led initiatives nationwide.
