Marking International Women’s Day 2026, a rally and discussion meeting was held in Kalkini, Madaripur, under the theme “Today’s Action, Tomorrow’s Justice: Protect the Rights of Women and Girls.” The programme was organised by the Kalkini Upazila Administration, Kalkini Municipality, and the Office of the Upazila Women Affairs Officer.
The programme was chaired by Kalkini Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Saif Ul Arefin, while Madaripur-3 MP Anisur Rahman Talukder Khokon attended as the chief guest. Shah Israt Azmeri, Chairman of Children Watch Foundation (CWF), attended the programme as a special guest, alongside local government officials, political representatives, women leaders, and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the event, Shah Israt Azmeri highlighted the significant contributions women are making across different sectors of the country. She stressed that greater attention should be given to economically empowering women at the grassroots level, particularly those living in remote areas.
She emphasised that initiatives should focus on enabling rural women to become economically independent and play a stronger role in their families and communities. “When a woman becomes self-reliant, it strengthens not only her family but also contributes to the progress and self-reliance of the entire country,” she said.
The discussion highlighted the importance of women’s rights, dignity, economic empowerment, and meaningful participation in society. Participants also called for stronger collective efforts to ensure that the benefits of women’s empowerment reach women and girls at the grassroots level.
